In able for consumers an indulge, Toyota created the Celica. In the North America, the Celica was offered in the LS,St, and GT. The ST came with a 1.9 liter 8R engine. In the second line of models (1972-1974), the 1975-1977 line, have the 2.2 liter 20R. The GT and LT models were presented for the 1974 model year. The GT included a 5-speed manual transmission, panel GT stripes, and styled steel wheels with chrome trim rings. And last but not least the economy model, the LT. Mid-1974 saw minor changes in the Celica's trim and badges.
Second Generation A40 Series
Production for the second generation Toyota Celica beagan in late 1977 and was released in 1978, once again being available in Coupe and Liftback. Both forms were designed by David Stollery and had frameless door glass and featured a thick B pillar. In the USA, the Griffith company offered a Targa top and a rear folding roof to the Coupe during 1979-1981.
The Celica second genereation can be broken down into tow series, Series A and Series B. Only being able to classify the two by appearance, they both have the same engine accommodation. The difference between the two were Series A Celicas (1978-1979), have round headlights and chrome bumpers. In the higher grade (GT and US models) have black rubber bumpers. While in Series B Celicas (1979-1981) have square headlights and black rubber bumpers.
